Laura has more than 25 years of coaching experience in summer recreational swim leagues. She coached the Plantation Pirates and has coached the Springhurst Sharks since 2004. She coaches the 10 and under group, and assists with the older swimmers’ practices. Her favorite stroke is backstroke. Her former swimmers include Coach Avery, Coach Gracie, and Coach Sam.
Laura teaches 8th grade Language Arts and U.S.History and is the Social Studies Department Chair at The de Paul School. She is an avid reader and volunteers with local nonprofit organizations.
In addition to her head coaching responsibilities with the Sharks, Laura is also the Springhurst Pool Manager and teaches swim lessons at the pool.
Tommy has 30 years swim coaching experience and has been with the Sharks more than 20 years. He coaches all of our older swimmers! He doesn’t have a favorite stroke, but claims the I.M. is the “ultimate event.”
Tommy works full-time for the Louisville Indoor Racquet Club. He claims bacon is his favorite food, and loves the Cincinnati Reds.
Coach Avery is excited for another summer with the Springhurst Sharks! This is Avery’s eighth year coaching with Springhurst, but her connection to the Sharks goes back even further. She started swimming for the team in 2005 as a 6-year-old and spent 13 summers as a Shark before finishing her swim career in 2017. She was a member of the spirit committee for three years and also swam four years varsity at Sacred Heart Academy. Her favorite stroke is breaststroke.
Avery graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Family Sciences and Special Education and later earned her Master’s in Learning and Behavioral Disorders from Georgetown College. She currently works for JCPS as a self-contained special education teacher at Noe Middle School. In September 2025, Avery welcomed her son, Beau, who quickly became the center of her world. In her free time, she loves spending time with Beau and Coach Jake, hanging out at the Springhurst pool with family and friends, coaching multiple sports teams, tailgating for Kentucky Wildcats football, and watching just about every sport possible. Avery can’t wait for another fun and successful summer with the Springhurst Sharks!
Coach Emily is so excited to be back with the Springhurst Sharks this year! I was a coach from 2019-2021 and am looking forward to a great season this year. I have been swimming since I was two years old and my favorite stroke is backstroke. I’m a 4th grade teacher and I love arts and crafts and spending time with my fiancé, friends and family! Go sharks!
This is Sam’s third year as a Springhurst coach. He was a Sharks swimmer from the young age of 5 and has since become a coach. Sam is a Saint Xavier High School graduate, where he swam for four years. His favorite stroke is butterfly. Sam just finished his second year at Hanover College, where he plans to pursue a double major in Communications and Psychology. In his free time, Sam likes to watch movies, hang out with friends and family, and read books. He is super excited to be a coach for another Shark season!
This will be Coach Clare’s first year coaching for Springhurst. She has been swimming competitively for 13 years. Her favorite stroke is butterfly or backstroke. She has been Lifeguarding for Springhurst for 3 years and will be managing this summer. She has helped coach the swim team at Goldfish Swim School and is part of the management team there. Clare attended Ballard Highschool where she played field hockey and swam all four years. She currently attends the University of Louisville and is majoring in Elementary Education. In her free time, Clare can be found at the pool, spending time with her friends at football games, playing with her dogs Bing, Ollie, and Tater Tot.
Will is a Senior swimmer and has been a Shark since he was 5 years old. He has also swam at Saint Xavier for the past four years. His favorite stroke is breaststroke. This will be his first year as a coach. Will is graduating from St. X this May and will be attending Hanover College in the Fall. He will be pursuing a degree in Engineering. In addition to swimming, Will plays soccer and loves to watch all kinds of sports. He loves the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Bengals. Will is excited to join the coaching staff this summer!
